The room

I had Anna and Emmie over for a sleepover. Pretty much, I keep them out of Meme's room. She is either in there sleeping or resting most of the time. Other times, there is just to much for them to get into. It so happened that this Sunday Meme was in my room, and the door to her room was slightly ajar. Emmie pushed it open, and wide eyed declared, "Oh Grandma, it's tho perfect." I am sure the television right next to her bed had something to do with her being awestruck.

Meme

Meme is Emily's great grandmother. She is very protective of her, like helping her to stand up, holding her hand when she is walking, etc. One Sunday I took both girls to church. Meme was home sleeping and Emily knew it. We sat near the front, and Emmie was being the perfect angel. Then it happened. The priest loudly rang the bells to indicate it was time for communion. Emmie yelled out "Shhhhh, Meme's sleeping." Everyone within earshot was either laughing out loud, or trying to contain their laughter. The priest again rang the bells, Emmie yells again, "Hey, Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I said Meme's sleeping." That was pretty much it for me and most of the poeple around us. Emmie sat back with a big smile on her face, and luckily the priest didn't have to ring the bells again.

Gamma's Gum

I was watching a video with the girls and Emily was on my lap. I always chew bubble gum, and she loves to watch me blow bubbles. This time she looked me straight in the face and said " Gramma, you have Bubbie Gum." When I stopped laughing and regained my composure, I thought to myself, 'Out of the mouths' of Babes. Of course your Bubbie would chew Bubbie Gum.

Emmie Words

I've had a request to post Emily words. Please post or email me more if I have forgotten. These will be spelled phonetically i.e. as I believe Emily pronounced them - along with the engilsh counterpart.

Zeeba - Zebra
Jaffe - Giraffe
Bee ah - Bear
Baby Da - Baby Duck
Ok o Pus - Octopus
Hunga - Hungry

Big as Nana

Our family was seated to dinner when I started playing a little game with the kids. I asked Anna if she was going to be as big as certain people in our family when she grew up. She said yes of course, and she was even going to be bigger than Daddy. Not to be outdone - Emily volunteered "I'm going to be as big as Nana when I grow up" - to which I replied "I'm afraid so Lemma, I'm afraid so." Nana is probably 5'3" at best.

OK You Tell Her!

This story takes place when Emily is about age 3

We took the kids to the library one afternoon. At the library each child was allowed to choose 3 books to take home. At this particular library there was a reading area for the kids and next to the reading area was a shelf of books. Emily proudly chose 3 books from this area [after much ado and some consternation that she could only choose 3] and we went to a very long check out line. When it was finally our turn the librarian took the books and said 'sir you can't check these books out - they have a yellow sticker on them.' I asked what that meant and apparently those are the display books for story time. I now had to explain to Emily that she could not have the books she wanted. She did not take it well. I tried to explain the circumstances but she was already mid temper tantrum. I threw her on my shoulders [still screaming] and walked her back to the kids area. She insisted that none of the books were kids books. To prove her wrong I took her to the Dr. Seuss shelf. At this she reluctantly started thumbing through the books. Finally she picked out not one, not two, but three copies of 'Oh the Thinks You Can Think.' There are at least two problems for me now. One, we already own the book and therefore we do not need to borrow it and two THIS IS THREE COPIES OF THE SAME BOOK. There was no talking her out of it. Given that I just had to return her other books, I gave in. Once again we wait through the long line and Emily proudly hands the librarian all 3 copies of 'Oh The Thinks You Can Think'. The librarian mechanically flips the books over and scans them all. In this new day and age the library prints out a recept so you know what you have and when to return it. The librarian quickly looked at it before putting it in the bag. She made a confused face and here is the conversation that followed:

Librarian: Do you realize you have 3 copies of the same book
Me: Yep
Librarian: Are they different versions or something?
Me: Nope
Librarian: Don't you think she'd like some different books
Me: OK You tell her!

Emily's Full Name

We have given each of our kids an extended name. This is a little confusing to them. Emily's is

Emily Elizabeth Munka Chunk Haag The Fourth

The naming convention is as follows

[first name][middle name][current nickname][last name][order of age in our family]

For the last part Niki is the 1st, I am the second, Anna is the third, which makes Lemma the 4th.

Nicknames

Our family loves to nickname. Our kids have had several. The title of this blog is a rip-off of one of Emily's current nicknames 'Emma-Lemma' Here are all the nicknames past/present for Emily that I can think of:

Poodge
Poodgerella
Emma-Lemma
Lemma
Lem-Lem
Lemmit
Hurricane Emily
Munka Chunk
Lemma Beebo
Emma-Lem-Lem
Little Miss Em

Really Big Puddle

On Emily's first trip to Hilton Head South Carolina (she had just turned 3) it was difficult to keep the kids amused on such a long drive. As we were leaving to return home the kids were a little sad so we started playing the 'what can you see out the window' game. Anna started "I see a bridge, a boat, some cars." Not to be left out Emily chimed in very excitedly "I see a really big puddle!" That would be the Atlantic Ocean.

Tippy Toe

Kids have a short attention span. Ours are no different. When Niki and I try to figure out what activities to get the kids involved in we base it off of the mood of the moment. Emily has asked about and mentioned 'Tippy Toe' [Lem-Lem for ballet] since she was about two. This past summer we broke down and signed her and Anna up for a 6 week ballet lesson. The lessons were at 6:00 which meant that I had to haul rear-end from work to make it there on time. Niki would drive the kids and we would meet at the studio. After the lesson Niki asked the kids who they wanted to go home with. At age 3 Emily is still stuck on Daddy (hope this never changes) and asked to go home with me. As I am driving her home she has a very thought filled look on her face before she says to me 'Daddy - you are a baseball daddy and I am a Tippy Toe Lem-Lem'

Welcome to Lemma's Log

I have been thinking about this for quite some time now. A number of people have suggested that Niki and I have a memories book that we write down all the cute kids stories and we can then put them into a scrapbook with pictures. I don't think we will ever have time for that. So in this day and age I kept kicking around the blog idea. My goal was to have a central repository for Niki and I to place cute kid stories [in this case Lemma stories] and allow people to view and comment. My ultimate goal is to figure out how to let select others add their favorite stories too, but alas I am new to this and haven't figured it out yet. I hope you enjoy - Please leave feedback.
